Webometrics is an automated ranking that assesses the digitalization and the excellence of international publications of the world’s higher education institutions found in Scopus and Google Scholar. The ranking indicators are weighted and specified as follows: - Impact (50%): Number of external networks (subnets) linking to the institution's webpages (normalized and then the maximum value is chosen); - Excellence (40%): Number of papers amongst the top 10% most cited in each one of the all 27 disciplines of the full database; - Openness (10%): Number of citations from Top 310 authors of higher education institutions found in Google Scholar. The 2023 January ranking of Vietnamese higher education institutions is as follows:
In this ranking, VNU
continued to climb, up 97 places compared to its rank in August 2022, featuring
in Group 700 globally; ranked 137th in Asia, and 11th in
Southeast Asia.
In this edition, Webometrics maintained the same ranking methodology as in August 2022. Specifically, Visibility has the highest weight (50%), followed by Excellence (40%) and Transparency (10%). However, in this ranking period, Transparency measured the number of citations of the top 310 authors of higher education institutions found in Google Scholar instead of the top 210 authors as in previous rankings. Also in this ranking, the dramatic growth of VNU’s Visibility – from 656th in August 2022 to 431st globally in January 2023, has shown an increase in VNU’s web content impact not only on the domestic and international academic community but also on the whole society.
